Warwick Chancellor's International Scholarship is designed for international students aspiring to pursue or currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree. The program is applicable to all the doctorate programs at the University of Warwick. Eligibility

Applicants of the Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship must fulfil the following eligibility requirements: ​​​​​​​

  1. Apply for a PhD at the University of Warwick to begin in October of every year.
  2. Be currently enrolled in the first year of a PhD or MPhil/Ph.D. at the University of Warwick.
  3. Be assessed as 'overseas' for fee purposes. There are no other nationality criteria.
  4. Be from any discipline at Warwick. Scholarships cannot be deferred to the next academic year.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 548,005 Awards made for entry in Autumn 2025 will include the following:

  1. The full payment of tuition fees
  2. A maintenance stipend paid at the prevailing UKRI rate for 3.5 years
  3. If you are already in your first year of study when you apply then the length of funding will be reduced accordingly.
  4. A Research, Training and Supporting Grant (RTSG) of £5, 000 (INR 5, 48, 005). Scholarships are limited.

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. We strongly advise preparing applications well in advance, noting that it is not usually possible to complete and submit an application in less than 36 hours.

  1. Read the Applicant Guidance Notes and PGR Ranking Criteria.
  2. Submit your course application and upload supporting documents.
  3. Receive an automated e-mail with a 7 digit applicant ID number. Please allow at least 48 hours for this to arrive.
  4. Register your ITS applicant account. Please note that the Doctoral College cannot help with issuing of ID numbers.
  5. Submit your scholarship application by the application deadline. We regret being unable to accept late applications for any reason.
  6. Submit supporting documents by the supporting document deadline (TBA). We regret being unable to accept late supporting documents for any reason.
  7. Results of the Chancellor's International Scholarship will be communicated by email by the start of March. Upload the required supporting documents:

  11. Personal Statement Applicants must note that the scholarship form consists of three questions, which each applicant must answer. The questions are:
  12. Describe yourself in 300 words.
  13. Explain your project and engagement with the subject in 300 words.

Selection process

Each department is asked to nominate its strongest applications and provide the officials with a nomination statement. This statement will-

  1. Contextualize the candidate’s application and references.
  2. Outline the candidate’s strengths and suitability with the department. Due to the limited number of Warwick scholarships available, every department is allocated a fixed number of nominations. The final decision of Warwick Chancellor’s International Scholarship recipients will be made by each faculty. Within every faculty, there are a number of independent Faculty Assessors.   3. The CIS is normally awarded for up to 3.5 years of full-time doctoral study and normally includes the payment of both academic fees and a maintenance grant to the award-holder. Funding is not retrospective. The length and value of each award is confirmed in the scholarship offer letter.
  4. The University’s decision over fee status will be final. By accepting the award, you have confirmed that you accept your assigned fee status and are not aware of any evidence that might alter this classification. If you do not disclose such evidence and the University becomes aware of it at a later date, your CIS award may be revoked.
  5. Payment of academic fees for the CIS is normally set at the Overseas fee rate. Payment of the maintenance grant is set at the prevailing UKRI rate.
  6. Awards for CIS are ordinarily expected to begin at the start of the next academic year. The award of the CIS may be deferred up until December of that academic year with prior permissions from the Doctoral College and your department. Deferral up to March of that academic year will be allowed in exceptional circumstances with prior permission from the Chair of the Board of Graduate Studies and your department.
  7. Accommodation fees are not directly covered by the CIS. The stipend is intended to be a contribution towards living expenses.
  8. The CIS award-holder is expected to participate periodically in a range of postgraduate recruitment and community focused activities, which might include postgraduate open days; induction events; focus groups; receptions held with potential sponsors or alumni, student talks etc. These Terms and Conditions are issued by the Academic Director, Doctoral College on behalf of the University of Warwick
