Application
There is an application fee of £50 for postgraduate taught courses. A. You must apply for and receive an offer to study a full-time masters (including MRes) at the University of Nottingham before applying for this scholarship. B. If you have an offer for a taught masters course, you can apply through the scholarships section of our application system, NottinghamHub. C. If you have an offer for an MRes course, email the scholarships team on scholarship-assistant@nottingham.ac.uk for instructions on how to apply. Application criteria In your application, you will be asked about your achievements, study plans, reasons for choosing to study with us and details of predicted grades (if applicable). Make sure you have enough time to prepare strong answers. They will assess your responses and academic merit when making scholarship decisions. Please note that there is a strict word count limit for all questions, which is outlined at the end of each question. The system does not automatically limit this, so you would be encouraged to check your application before you submit. Any responses submitted that exceed the outlined word count may not be reviewed. These steps will take you through the application process. Before you apply Check academic requirements Academic requirements vary by programme. Evidence of relevant personal, professional and educational experience may be taken into consideration. Generally an undergraduate degree will be required, but we may be able to consider experience-based qualifications on a case-by-case basis. Contact the academic school directly for further information. International and EU students can find guidance on alternative qualifications on country-specific webpages. English not your first language? If English isn't your first language, you will also need to meet the relevant English language requirements. IELTS requirements are detailed on our course pages, though also accept a variety of alternative qualifications. If you require additional support to develop your language skills, you may be able to attend a presessional course at the Centre for English Language Education. Check key dates and deadlines A. Teaching for most postgraduate taught courses starts late September, while some have alternative start dates. B. Although most postgraduate courses do not formally close for applications, places are limited and courses may become full. C. They will endeavour to make a decision on your application within six weeks. International students A. International applicants should apply as early as possible to ensure that you have enough time to apply for your student visa. If you are successful in receiving an offer, you will need to accept it and meet any outstanding conditions by early September, or as advised by the admissions team. Funding deadlines A. An offer of study is required for many funding opportunities. You should check deadlines for applications carefully, as these are often early in the year. Please apply early and allow time for any fee payments and your application to be processed to avoid disappointment. If you have a known deadline for funding (e.g. scholarship, sponsorship etc), we encourage you to make us aware of it in your application. Applying Submit your application
- You can apply directly through our online system. You will receive an automatic confirmation once you submit your application and can track its progress.
- Make sure that you upload scanned copies of your degree certificate and transcripts, as well as any other supporting documents, as we will not be able to assess your application without them. Please do not send us the original copies in the post.
- Depending on the course you are applying for, you may also need to provide two references, including at least one who can comment on your academic ability. These must be dated within two years of the date of your application and, if not received directly from your referee, signed and on letter-headed paper. They may also require a personal statement.
- Applications for teacher training are made through DfE Apply and MA Social Work are made through UCAS. Application fee There is an application fee of £50 for postgraduate taught courses. Your application will not be assessed until the application fee has been paid and processed. For application deadlines and early course closures we require the application fee to be paid before the date stated on the course page. They do not consider your application as being fully submitted until your application payment has been made and processed. It can take up to 5 days for your application fee to be processed, so please allow time for this with any application or funding deadlines. After you apply Track your application
- You can log in at any time to track the progress of your application.
- When they have made a decision on your application, they will send you an email and let you know what you need to do next. They may also contact you asking you to provide further information to help us assess your application. Tuition fee deposit
- International students who are planning to start a full-time postgraduate taught course will be required to pay a tuition fee deposit of at least £3,000 as part of the visa process.
- They will waive the tuition fee deposit requirement for students who are fully sponsored by a recognised sponsor. If you are fully sponsored for your course fees, you must email a copy of your sponsorship letter, quoting your full name and application ID.
- The University will only accept sponsorship letters from recognised sponsors such as overseas governments, international businesses, universities, trusts and charities, and not from friends/family members. Further information requests Admissions may, at their discretion, ask applicants to provide further information in order to assess their application fairly and accurately. This can include CVs, references (academic and professional) and clarifications regarding their previous and current education. In such cases you will be contacted by admissions with a more information request.
Selection process
The university starts assessing International Student Recruitment scholarship applications once the closing date has passed. Scholarship applications are carefully assessed by a staff panel and are not awarded on a first come first served basis. Please note that you will receive an email to confirm the outcome of your scholarship application once the final results are known; this will normally take place within six weeks of the closing date. The University of Nottingham reserves the right to withdraw your scholarship if you are subsequently found to be ineligible or if these terms and conditions are not adhered to. The University also reserves the right to amend its scholarship provision without notice. Your obligations As an International Student Recruitment scholarship holder, you must:
- Accept the scholarship by the given deadline by responding to the award notification – the University reserves the right to withdraw the offer of a scholarship if it is not accepted by the given deadline.
- Meet the conditions attached to your academic offer (if it is a conditional offer).
- Join your academic course at the given start date and before the registration deadline.
- Be registered as a full-time student and be classified as overseas for fee purposes (excluding UoN Ukraine Scholars at Risk Scholarship).
- Inform the funding team of any other scholarships or sponsorship currently held, or awarded at a later date. The scholarship may be adjusted or withdrawn if other sources of funding have been awarded.
- Seek permission and obtain consent from the funding team before making any changes to your programme of study – this includes course transfers, changing the course title, suspending studies, etc. Please note that approval is not guaranteed. Where changes are made without prior approval, the scholarship will be withdrawn and you may be required to repay the scholarship in full.
- Pay all outstanding tuition fees by University deadlines if you have not been awarded a full scholarship, as detailed on tuition fees webpages. Non-payment of fees may result in the scholarship being withdrawn and full fees being charged to you.
- Maintain your living costs for the duration of your programme of study, if the scholarship has no provision for living costs. The University recommends that students will need £1,023 per month for living costs. This figure is based on student visa requirements for a single student, and students with families will require considerably more.
- Make satisfactory progress on your programme of study. The scholarship is subject to satisfactory progress.
- Repay the scholarship amount, pro-rata, if you withdraw from your course before completion.
- Agree to act in an ambassadorial capacity, to provide student profiles or testimonials if requested, and to attend scholarship or recruitment events as required for the University of Nottingham.
- Agree to the University of Nottingham contacting you during the period approximately two years after your graduation for an update on how the scholarship has influenced your career. Your data will also be passed to our Alumni Team who retain data in support of your lifelong relationship with the University. Scholarship offer
- Undergraduate scholarships are only offered for the first year of study. Masters scholarships are awarded for one year only. Other scholarships vary so please check the individual pages for further details. Scholarships are not automatically extendable if you extend your studies.
- Scholarships are awarded based on the information provided in your online scholarship application. They reserve the right to withdraw a scholarship, if information provided is not accurate.
- Tuition fee scholarships will be deducted from the tuition fees charged to you as a student at Nottingham, split across your payment instalments. We will not pay tuition fee scholarships to you directly. No cash alternatives are available if the total funding you have been awarded is in excess of the tuition fee.
- You may be required to repay the scholarship amount, in full or pro-rata, if you withdraw from your course before completion.
- Scholarships cannot be deferred to the following academic year, even if your academic offer is deferred. If you decide to defer your studies at Nottingham, you should apply again for our scholarships the following year once you have an offer for the new academic year. There is no guarantee that we will offer the same scholarships each year, or that you will be offered a scholarship again after reapplying.
