The Program in Law and Public Policy (P*LAW) follows in the tradition of Princeton University’s great law and public affairs programs, engaging leading legal scholars and practitioners in the work of solving the complex problems of the 21st century. Part of the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton, P*LAW hosts distinguished law faculty fellows, advances interdisciplinary research on questions of law and public policy, and supports courses, workshops, and events aimed at advancing understanding of law’s role in shaping policy decision-making in the United States and around the world. P*LAW faculty affiliates teach and publish widely on topics from constitutional law and U.S. history to criminal justice, technology and foreign relations, engaging the University, the Princeton community, and the general public about the many ways law impacts American life.

Eligibility

  1. Applications are invited from faculty members of any discipline, independent scholars, lawyers, and judges apply.
  2. All applicants must have received a doctorate, juris doctor, or an equivalent professional degree at the time of submission of the fellowship application.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 7,555,594 Candidates must hold a JD degree and have a strong record of research publications appropriate to their career stage. Typically, fellows hold full-time law faculty positions at other universities or colleges. Scholars not eligible to receive their standard academic salary from their home institutions during their fellowship year may be eligible to receive up to one-half of their standard academic-year salary for the appointment period, up to a maximum of $90,000 (75,55,594.50 Rs). Selection process

The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs invites applications for visiting law faculty fellows in Law and Public Policy for the academic year 2024-

  1. This full-time visiting program is open to legal scholars actively engaged in research and writing on topics related to contemporary issues in law and public policy. Fellows are expected to reside in or around Princeton or demonstrate to the program’s satisfaction the ability to be on campus most days of the week during the academic year. Fellows are expected to pursue their own research project and to be active contributors to the intellectual life of the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), including through participation in a weekly works-in-progress lunch seminar with Princeton colleagues and visiting speakers. While no teaching is required, fellows are expected to conceive and organize an interdisciplinary Problem-Solving Workshop to be held at some point during their fellowship focused on a policy problem related to the subject of their research. Guidance and staff support will be available to help fellows design a useful workshop that advances their research and thinking, with space available on campus or at SPIA’s meeting facilities in Washington, D.C.
