NIDM Internship Programme
The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, offers internships to students interested in disaster management and related fields. There are two types of internships: stipend-based and non-stipend. The stipend-based internships are conducted twice a year, during summer and winter, for 8 to 16 weeks, with an intake of 15 interns per session (total 30 per year) and a stipend of 12,000 to 15,000 rupees per month depending on qualification. The non-stipend internships are available throughout the year, typically for 2 to 6 months, with up to 20 interns at a time, but no stipend is provided. Eligible students are those pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil., or Ph.D. degrees in relevant fields, with minimum marks ranging from 60 to 65 percent depending on the type of internship. Applications for the stipend-based internships are submitted online with a CV, statement of purpose, and bonafide/NOC certificate, while non-stipend applications are sent by email. There is no application fee for either program. Selection is based on academic performance, relevance of the project, and institute review, and may include a personal interaction or interview. Interns engage in research, policy, training, and project work, and must submit a final report to receive a certificate of completion.
