GRANT LINGARD SCHOLARSHIP

Grant Lingard Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students entering the final year of their undergraduate studies. The purpose of this scholarship is to reward the academic achievement of full-time students about to enter the final year of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury. The scholarship covers the full-time tuition fees at the domestic fee-paying rate, meaning international students have to pay the difference. Eligibility

To be considered for the Grant Lingard Scholarship- University of Canterbury, The applicants must meet the below-mentioned eligibility requirements:

  1. Applicants must be full-time students about to enter the final year of a BFA degree in the School of Fine Arts. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the final year of a BFA degree during tenure of the scholarship.
  2. Nationality: No restrictions, all fee-paying students are considered. ​​​​​​​Note: The scholarship program is limited to full-time students only. Distance and part-time students are not eligible for it.

  1. The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of the full-time tuition fee at the New Zealand domestic rate.
  2. The scholarship is paid to the recipient’s University fees account.
  3. Payment is made as soon as practicable on confirmation of the applicant’s enrolment in the eligible programme​​​​​​​. Scholarships are limited.

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. Applicants must follow the following steps while applying for Grant Lingard Scholarship: 1. Apply for the undergraduate BFA degree program at the University of Canterbury. 2. Complete the online scholarship application form. 3. Upload the required documents. 4. Submit the application form. 5. Eligible applicants are required to submit their scholarship applications before October 31. 6. A required part of the application form is a short written statement outlining the applicant’s projected studio work for the year in which the scholarship is to be held, indicating their reasons for doing that work. Supporting Documents: The below-mentioned supporting documents are to be submitted along with the scholarship application: 1. Copies of academic transcripts. 2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)/ resume. 3. Selection process

Selections for the scholarships are based on academic merit in previous years of the study. The committee also evaluates the candidates on the basis of their short statement. The selection committee for Grant Lingard Scholarship comprises of:

  1. Vice chancellor or nominee.
  2. Head of school of fine arts.
  3. Dean of creative arts and nominee.
  4. Representative of the Lingard family. Note: The selection committee might refrain from awarding any candidate in case no applicant has sufficient merit. Selection criteria ​​​​​​​
  5. In making the recommendation/s, the selection committee gives equal consideration to: a. Academic merit; and b. The applicant’s projected studio work for the year in which the scholarship is to be held and their reasons for doing it. In the event of two or more applicants being of equal or similar academic merit, preference will be given to a student whose family is located in the West Coast region of the South Island of New Zealand.
  6. If, in any year, there is no candidate of sufficient merit, no scholarship is offered. Other Info Tenability and retention criteria
  7. The scholarship must be taken up in the year following the year of application.
  8. The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in the final year of a BFA degree.
  9. The scholarship is tenable for one year.
  10. The scholarship is co-tenable with any other award unless the conditions of the other award preclude this.
  11. The scholarship may be withdrawn, and any paid funds may be recovered if, during tenure, the recipient does not: a. maintain an enrolment that meets the conditions. b. maintain satisfactory academic engagement. c. adhere to the University’s statutes, regulations, policies, and rules.
