BUILDING BHARAT BOSTON BIOSCIENCES (B4) FELLOWSHIP

The Building Bharat-Boston Biosciences Program (B4) is offering up to eight 18-month fellowships for Indian citizens – currently residing in India – who specialize in a field related to the biosciences. Applicants must have achieved a PhD from an institution in India within the last five years. The applications can also be accepted from highly-qualified senior doctoral students.​​​​​​​ The mission of B4 is to nurture useful progress in the field of biosciences, including biotechnology, through the development of partnerships with leading universities and by engaging scientists from India and Harvard through exchange programs. B4 includes workshops, seminars and a Science and Technology Fellowship, based at Harvard, in fields related to biosciences. Fellows are expected to reside in the Cambridge area and to actively participate in the events and intellectual life of the Institute. In addition, Fellows will contribute to the greater Harvard community by teaching, mentoring and advising students.​​​​​​​

Eligibility

Scholars who have completed their PhD within the last five years from an institution in India in a bioscience-related field are eligible. Exceptional senior doctoral students, with demonstrable independence and maturity, may be considered. Applicants must be Indian citizens who are residing in India.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 195,000 INR 195,000 per month for 18 months. Health insurance and round-trip economy travel expenses to and from Boston will also be provided. Number of fellowship is the subject to availability, for more please visit official website.

Selection process

The applications will be scrutinized by an expert panel and the top applicants will be selected. Other Info Funded by the Department of Biotechnology within the Government of India, the B4 program is a collaboration between the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) in Bangalore, the Harvard Global Research Support Centre India, and the Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard University. The program began in 2016 and is currently in its second phase. It builds upon the Resonance Program, a collaboration between MIT, Harvard, and IIT Delhi. Each year, the B4 Program hosts the following activities:

  1. Fellowship: Up to eight 18-month science and technology fellowships are offered in bioscience-related fields at Harvard and other institutions in the Boston area.
  2. Visiting Scientist Program: The B4 Program hosts Visiting Scientists for 12 months in fields related to the biosciences at Harvard University and other Boston-area institutions. This program is open to Assistant Professors/Scientists (holding Ph.D.) not exceeding 42 years of age and working in regular capacity in the academic institutions and research organizations in India during the first 7 years of their service.
  3. Young Scientist Development Course: Two annual workshops, each spanning two weeks, are held on topics related to the biosciences and provide interdisciplinary learning for young scientists of India.
  4. In-Country Seminar: Two annual seminars, each held in a city in India, highlight the work of the returning B4 fellows.
