Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award (formerly the Young Women in Public Affairs Award) recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes, and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. Since 1990, Zonta has given 1,128 awards, totaling US$1,673,750 to 956 young women from 61 countries. Eligibility
- Only female candidates are eligible for this scholarship
- Young women in the age group of 16 – 19 years will be eligible
- Applicants must be students at a school, college, or university in a Zonta district/region, or studying elsewhere but are citizens of a Zonta Country Applicants have to show proof of:
- Active commitment to volunteerism.
- Paid or unpaid leadership experience in local government or workplace.
- Volunteer leadership achievements.
- Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs.
- Support Zonta International's mission of empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 418,500 The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta International offers 37 international awards of US$5,000 or 4,18,553.50 Indian Rupee. Each district may submit one applicant for consideration for an international scholarship. The five largest districts may submit a second applicant for a total of two applicants. No Information Available. Applicants must follow the steps given below to apply for Young Women in Public Affairs Awards: Step 1: Locate the nearest Zonta Club. Step 2: Contact the Zonta Club for the application deadline. Step 3: Download the application form from the website. Step 4: Fill out the downloaded application form. Step 5: Submit required documents for verification of current enrolment from the school, college, or university officials. Two confidential recommendations from school, college, or university are also required. Step 6: Submit all documents in English and the completed application form to your nearest Zonta Club.
Selection process
- All the applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their merit, concerning their commitment, volunteerism to public service and leadership skills.
- Each Zonta club reviews the submitted applications and the supporting documents and selects one applicant as the club-level winner. The winning entry from each club is sent to the Zonta governor/ region representative.
- The district/ region evaluating committee reviews the applications received from various clubs and selects one applicant from each district/ region.
- The Zonta International Award Committee chooses 10 international recipients from district/region applications to Zonta International Board. After the consent of the Zonta International Board, Zonda Foundations provides Young Women in Public Affairs Awards and certificates to all the recipients.
