The University of Canterbury offers the UC International First Year Scholarship to top-achieving international students commencing an undergraduate degree program at the University.​​​​​​​ The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and support top-achieving international students who have completed, or are currently completing, studies at either an overseas institution or the University of Canterbury International College (UCIC) and will be commencing an undergraduate degree program at the University of Canterbury. Eligibility

  1. Recipients must be full-fee-paying international students.
  2. Applicants may not be: ​​​​​​​ a. Citizens of New Zealand or Australia; b. Permanent Residents of Australia; or c. Holders of New Zealand residence class visas.
  3. Applicants must be completed, or have completed on or after 1 January of the year before the year of application, through an overseas institution or at the UC International College (UCIC), a university entrance-level qualification that permits entry into a University of Canterbury undergraduate degree program. Those studying at the secondary level in New Zealand are not eligible.
  4. Applicants, by the closing date for the round in which they are applying (15 April or 31 October), must have applied for admission to the University.
  5. The scholarship is not tenable by students who have already undertaken partial study in an undergraduate degree program at a New Zealand tertiary institution.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 1,258,287

  1. The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of $15, 000 (INR 12, 58, 287).
  2. The scholarship is paid to the recipient’s University tuition fees account at the time of enrolment in a programme. Number of Scholarships- Up to 07, across two scholarship rounds (April and October).

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. Selection process

Selection process-

  1. Seven scholarships are available annually.
  2. The Council of the University awards the scholarship on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising: a. The Vice-Chancellor (or nominee); and b. The Executive Director, Student Services and Communications (or nominee); and c. Another member of the University staff. Selection criteria
  3. In making its recommendations, the committee considers, in descending order of priority: a. Quality of achievement in a programme of study. b. Character, and evidence of leadership potential and of involvement in cultural, sport, and/or community activities; c. Financial circumstances; and d. strategic objectives of the University.
  4. If, in any year, there are fewer candidates of sufficient merit than there are scholarships available, fewer awards are made. Other Info Conditions of acceptance
  5. Unless otherwise specified in the offer letter, an offer of scholarship lapses if it is not formally accepted within one calendar month of the offer date.
  6. By accepting the award, recipients permit publication and announcement of their acceptance and indicate that they are willing to engage in University community activities, such as student mentoring, acting as University ambassadors, and being involved with University publicity as appropriate. Tenability and retention criteria
  7. Students who apply for the scholarship in April must take up the scholarship in the year of application. Students who apply for the scholarship in October must take up the scholarship in the year following the year of application.
  8. The scholarship is tenable for full-time enrolment in the first year of a programme for an undergraduate degree at the University.
  9. The scholarship is co-tenable with any other award unless the conditions of the other award preclude this.
  10. In the event where a recipient’s enrolment in the year of tenure no longer meets the conditions, the scholarship is withdrawn and any paid funds may be recovered.
  11. Continuation of a scholarship is conditional on satisfactory academic engagement and adherence to the University’s statutes and regulations.
