The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship is awarded to new international students of high caliber to encourage them to enroll in undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the university. The scholarship accepts applications bi-annually from all eligible students.

Eligibility

  1. Commencing undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Auckland.
  2. Applicants must be an English Language Academy (ELA) student who has received a conditional offer. Applicants must meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement: Test Name Minimum score for UG Minimum score for PG IELTS 6.0 6.5 TOEFL-iBT 80 90 TOEFL-pBT 60 68 PTE 50 58

Award & availability

Stated amount: 830,000

  1. Scholarship is valued at up to 10,000 NZD for postgraduate and undergraduate study.
  2. Payments under the terms of this Scholarship remain tax-free as long as they are used for the payments of costs associated with an awardee’s program of study.
  3. Scholarship holders will be required to give undertakings that they will comply with the regulations for the Scholarship and will notify the Scholarships Office of any change in their enrollment or funding status. Selection process

  1. The Scholarship will be known as the University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship.
  2. Up to 50 Scholarships will be awarded annually and will comprise a contribution towards compulsory tuition fees of up to $10,000 each.
  3. To be eligible for Scholarship consideration, an applicant must i) be an international student, be either a new student who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission, or an English Language Academy (ELA) student who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission, or a student enrolled, or enrolling, in the Summer Start International programme who has received a conditional or unconditional offer of admission and be enrolled, or enrolling, full-time in either a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) or masters degree, or an undergraduate degree (applying with overseas secondary or post-secondary qualifications) at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland. Students who have already commenced study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland, excluding study in the Summer Start International programme, students who have undertaken any tertiary level study in New Zealand, or students enrolling in a Business master programme in the Graduate School of Management (GSM), excluding the Master of Applied Finance, the Master of Business Analytics and the Master of Supply Chain Management, are not eligible to apply for this Scholarship. A grade point equivalent (GPE) of at least 6.00 is required for Scholarship consideration.
  4. The basis of selection will be academic merit, the quality of the letter of application and endorsement by the applicant’s referee. The Selection Committee may also consider the applicant’s country of origin, and how the intended programme of study aligns with the University’s strategic aims.
  5. The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Deputy Vice Chancellor Strategic Engagement (or nominee), the Director of the International Office (or nominee), and two faculty representatives from the International Committee.
  6. Applicants who have been offered a Scholarship must accept their offer by the date prescribed in the letter of award, otherwise the Scholarship offer will be forfeited. 7.The Scholarship will be paid as a credit towards compulsory fees in the first semester of study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland as soon as is practical after confirmation of the awardee’s enrolment (that is, after the final date on which a student may add or delete courses without incurring a late enrolment fee).
  7. To be paid the Scholarship, awardees must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree, a PGDip or masters programme.
  8. As a condition of tenure, awardees will be required to enrol full-time for at least two semesters of study at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.
  9. The Scholarship may not be held concurrently with a University of Auckland India High Achievers Scholarship, a University of Auckland ASEAN High Achievers Scholarship, or a University of Auckland International Business Masters Scholarship. However, the Scholarship may be held with any other scholarship, grant or award as long as the regulations for that scholarship, award or grant permit and the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves. It is the responsibility of the awardee to declare to the Scholarships Office all other scholarships, awards or grant funding received and for which the awardee receives payment while also in payment for this Scholarship.
  10. The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if it is determined there is no candidate that meets the criteria and/or no candidate of sufficient merit.
  11. University of Auckland Council can amend or vary these Regulations, provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.
  12. Applications close with the Scholarships Office on 21 November in the year preceding the award and 18 April in the year of the award.
