SOUTHAMPTON INTERNATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATES

The following merit scholarships are available to international students and offer up to £3,000 off the first year of tuition fees: A. Biological Sciences Undergraduate International Scholarship B. Business School Undergraduate International Scholarship C. Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Undergraduate International Scholarship D. Economic, Social and Political Sciences Undergraduate International Scholarship E. Education School Undergraduate International Scholarship F. Geography and Environmental Science Undergraduate International Scholarship G. Law School Undergraduate International Scholarship H. School of Mathematical Sciences Undergraduate International Scholarship I. Ocean and Earth Science Undergraduate International Scholarship J. Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship you must: a. need to pay the overseas tuition fee b. have a conditional or unconditional offer to study an eligible course c. be starting in Year 1 of an eligible course Other eligibiity criteria depend on which school offers your course. Business, Law or Physics and Astronomy For scholarships offered by Southampton Business School, the School of Physics and Astronomy, and Southampton Law School, you must both exceed your offer and achieve either: a. an A level A* grade b. an International Baccalaureate grade 7 at Higher level equivalent qualifications Chemistry, Economic, Social and Political Science, Education or Maths For scholarships offered by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the School of Economic, Social and Political Science, the Southampton Education School and the School of Mathematical Sciences, you must both exceed your offer and achieve either: a. an A level A or A* grade b. an International Baccalaureate grade 7 or Higher level equivalent qualifications All other schools For all other schools, you must achieve either: a. an A level A or A* grade b. an International Baccalaureate grade 6 or 7 at Higher level equivalent qualifications This applies to courses run by Biological Science, Geography and Environmental Science, Ocean and Earth Science, and Psychology. Students who are not eligible These scholarships are not available to students studying: a. on PGCert, PGDip, Foundation or PGR courses b. on Distance Learning courses c. with a partner institution d. at our campus in Malaysia e. on continuing professional development (CPD) courses f. only pre-sessional English - pre-sessional English students with an offer to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level can still apply

Selection process

How we award merit scholarships Chemistry, Economic, Social and Political Science, Education or Maths We award eligible students discounts of £1,000 for each A or A* grade above the standard offer for courses run by: a. Chemistry and Chemical Engineering b. Economic, Social and Political Sciences c. Southampton Education School d. School of Mathematical Sciences For example, if you need A, B and B in your A levels and you get A*, A and B, you will get £2,000 towards your first year tuition fees. Business, Law or Physics and Astronomy We award eligible students discounts of £1,000 for each A* grade above the standard offer for courses run by: a. Southampton Business School b. Southampton Law School c. Physics and Astronomy For example, if you need A, A and B in your A levels and you get A*, A and A, you will get £1,000 towards your first year tuition fees. All other schools We award eligible students discounts of £1,000 for each A or A* grade for courses run by: a. Biological Science b. Geography and Environmental Science c. Ocean and Earth Science d. Psychology For example, if you need A, A and B in your A levels and you get A, A and A, you will get £3,000 towards your first year tuition fees. The most you can get is £3,

  1. The scholarships apply only to the first year of your tuition fees. Other Info Scholarship terms and conditions These conditions apply to all scholarships offered by the University of Southampton. Getting your scholarship To get your scholarship, you must: a. meet all conditions attached to your offer b. enrol as a full-time student by the start date c. provide evidence of where you live and qualifications at enrolment d. pay all outstanding tuition fees by University deadlines, where needed e. not have more than one scholarship from the University of Southampton - if you are eligible for multiple scholarships, you will get the scholarship with the highest value You cannot defer your scholarship if you defer your studies. What you agree to when you accept a scholarship By accepting a scholarship, you agree to: a. act as a good ambassador for the University of Southampton b. take part in events or promotional activities What you will get a. Successful applicants will receive the award as a tuition fee discount. b. If the amount we award is more than your tuition fees, the tuition fees will be covered in full. You will not get any additional funding. c. No cash alternative is available and the award cannot be used in place of any required deposit. d. The tuition fee discount will be taken off the full invoice at the start of each academic year. If you withdraw or are suspended from a course before completion, entitlement to the fee waiver will be applied in line with the refund policy. Conditions specific to scholarship awards for all years of study Undergraduate scholarships will be awarded for all years of undergraduate study subject to standard progression throughout the course. This applies to the: a. Southampton Presidential International Scholarship b. Southampton Arts and Humanities Global Dean's Talent Scholarship Rights of the University of Southampton to take back the scholarship The University of Southampton reserves the right to take back a scholarship award if: a. we find out that you are ineligible b. you break the terms and conditions of the scholarship c. there is misrepresentation and fraud in your application d. your course is no longer available e. you do not pay all tuition fees by University payment deadlines f. the University disciplinary panel upholds a serious misconduct charge g. you do not meet academic progression requirements If we take back your scholarship award, you will need to pay back the money. The University of Southampton reserves the right to review and change the scholarships we offer.
