South Asia Business and Law Scholarship is offered by the University of Newcastle. Students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are eligible for the scholarship. It applies to a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate Business or Law program.

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to international students applying to study with University of Newcastle for the first time, as well as students entering via the following approved Newcastle International College (NIC) pathways: • Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Business and Commerce with NIC and are entering the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce (as year 2). • Students who successfully complete the NIC Pre-Master’s Program and gain entry to a Masters level Business School Program. The successful scholar must: A. Be commencing in an eligible program with the Faculty of Business and Law, University of Newcastle as a new student or via an approved Newcastle International College (NIC) pathway (eligible programs exclude ELICOS, NonAward, Masters by Research, PhD programs). B. Be an international full-fee paying student from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. C. Be enrolled full-time. D. Be studying on-campus with UON within Australia. E. Not hold another scholarship funded by the FBUSL for the same program, of equivalent or more substantial benefit. F. Be able to meet all of the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the full tuition fee and other expenses for the purpose of obtaining a student visa for study in Australia, and in the event that continued eligibility for the scholarship is not maintained.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 418,600 A. The scholarship benefit is $2500, payable as a tuition fee waiver, per term of full-time study in an eligible program, for up to four terms. These may be paid each semester or trimester, depending on the program, to a total value of $10,000 for a two year (or more) program and $5,000 for a one year program. B. Students who achieve a Distinction average across their studies at UON will be eligible to apply for an additional $2,500 merit based scholarship in their final term ofstudy. C. The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s UON customer account around census date in the relevant term ofstudy. D. The scholarship benefit will be reduced to $5000 if the postgraduate coursework program is a dual or double degree shared with another institution. E. The advertised number of scholarships available is indicative only and subject to funding. F. If the scholar studies a postgraduate dual or double degrees with a non-UON partner, the value of the scholarship is $5,000 only toward that component of the degree studies with University of Newcastle 100 scholarships will be awarded annualy.

Selection process

A. No application is required for thisscholarship. B. Eligibility for this scholarship will be assessed alongside your application for admission to a FBUSL program and you may be automatically awarded thisscholarship. C. In considering eligibility, your academic progress in your prior study and IELTS scores may be taken into account. Consultation with areas of the university who assess equivalence according to standards provided by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition may occur, if required. D. Scholarships will be awarded where criteria are met. Where funding permits, the FBUSL will aim to support all eligible scholars. If needed, preference may be given to applicants who have applied through a University Partner Institution. E. The Faculty of Business and Law reserves the right not to award a scholarship. Other Info CONDITIONS OF AWARD

  1. The scholarship istenable for up to 2 years of the eligible program.
  2. The scholarship must be taken up for the program and in the term for which it wasawarded.
  3. The scholar shall continue to fulfil the relevant eligibility criteria for the duration of the scholarship, unless varied in accordance.
  4. If the scholar studies a postgraduate dual or double degrees with a non-UON partner, the value of the scholarship is $5,000 only toward that component of the degree studies with University of Newcastle.
  5. The scholarship is subject to review each semester. The scholar must maintain full time enrolment and satisfactory academic progress with no failedcourses for continued eligibility.
  6. The scholarship and the number available are subject to approval and funding in each academicyear.
  7. The recipientshall not be required by the university to undertake employment as a condition of payment of the scholarshipbenefit.
  8. The scholarship provides a tuition fee waiver and does not cover the costs of visas, Overseas Student Health Cover, travel, accommodation, living expenses, SSAF, books and study materials or any other expenses associated with studying at the University ofNewcastle.
  9. The scholar must pay their tuition fees within the stipulated payment deadlines, and must remain in good financial standing with the University.
  10. The scholar must remain compliant with the conditions of the student visa, including but not limited to the requirement to maintain a full time study load unless approval is obtained for a reduced load.
  11. The scholar must maintain international student status for the duration of their enrolment in the University. The scholarship will be terminated if a student ceasesto be an international student.
  12. Continuation of the scholarship and benefitsissubject to the scholar maintaining satisfactory academic progress, that is, a cumulative Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 50 across each term of enrolment. SUSPENSION OF SCHOLARSHIP BENEFIT There is no provision for leave or deferral of thisscholarship. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION Where a scholar is not meeting the conditions of the scholarship due to illness, injury or other extenuating circumstances, they may apply in writing to the Scholarships office for special consideration. Applications must be supported by appropriate documentary evidence and a decision will be made in consultation with the relevant area funding thescholarship. TERMINATION A scholarship shall terminate before its due date of conclusion ifthe scholar:
  13. failsto fulfil any of the conditions of the scholarship; or
  14. relinquishes the scholarship;or
  15. ceases to be a student of the University,whicheverfirst occurs. VARIATION The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Business and Law may vary any of the provisions of these conditions, where satisfied that exceptional circumstances warrant variation.
