SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE AWARD

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration among the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), the Singapore Management University (SMU), and the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). It is a bond-free award offered to international students with excellent academic undergraduate and/or master's results, and strong interest in doing research leading to a doctorate (PhD) or an EngD in Science and Engineering at a Singapore University. Interested students can choose to do PhD or EngD training at A*STAR research institutes, NTU, NUS, SUTD, SMU or SIT. Upon successful completion, students are conferred a PhD or EngD degree by either NTU, NUS, SUTD, SMU or SIT.

Eligibility

A. Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results. Note: SINGA is intended primarily for international students studying for the first time in Singapore. Singaporeans, Singapore Permanent Residents and International students studying/who have studied in Singapore tertiary institutions are not eligible. B. Good skills in written and spoken English C. Good reports from academic referees The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive.

Stated amount: 268,151 The award provides support for up to 4 years of PhD studies including: Tuition fees Monthly stipend of S$2,700 which will be increased to S$3,200 (2,68,151 Rs.) after the passing of the Qualifying Examination* One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500 One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000 Number of Scholarships : 2

Documents Required Do prepare the following documents in advance before applying. Note: Do NOT mail any hard copy documents to SINGA Office. All necessary documents are to be submitted online. a. Valid Passport b. A recent passport-sized photo (in .jpeg or .png format) Transcripts & Reports ALL transcripts need to be in English translation Mandatory A. Bachelor’s and/or Master’s academic transcripts. B. Bachelor’s Degree certificate

  1. / scroll(s) or a letter of certification from the university on your candidature if your degree certificate / scroll has not yet been conferred. C. 2 recommendation reports (to be completed and submitted online by the referees). D. Applicants applying to NUS supervisors/projects are required to submit your GRE scores in your SINGA application form. For all other applicants, you may be requested by the university to submit satisfactory GRE scores as part of the university admission requirement. The submission of IELTS / TOEFL / SAT I & II / GATE results is optional and may be requested later by the university for admission. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Please read the important information below. a. Please ensure that the information you provide during account registration in the application portal is accurate, as the information will be used for verification upon your first log-in. b. Please ensure that you apply for the correct scholarship – “Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)” – in the application portal after logging in. c. Please do NOT mail any hard copy documents to the SINGA Office. d. Please submit your applications as early as possible. This will provide ample time for your referees to submit their online recommendation reports before the application deadline, as only applications with 2 recommendation reports will be processed. e. Please check and ensure that all data you have entered in the online application form is correct and accurate before you submit the application. Amendments to the application will NOT be possible after it is submitted. Submission deadline for August intake: December (2359hrs GMT +8 Singapore Time) Only shortlisted candidates will be notified within 12 weeks from the application closing date.

Selection process

Condition 1: For the Award, recommendation letters from at least 2 academic referees are required. Condition 2: Upon submission of your online application, an email will be sent to your academic referees prompting them to complete an online recommendation form within 7 days of your application submission date. Please note that recommendation letters should be submitted through the online portal. Email attachments or hardcopies sent directly to the SINGA office will not be processed. Condition 3: Please advise your academic referees to check his/her junk inbox in case the email has been accidentally re-directed there. Applicants could also log in to the online application portal, click on "Referee info" under the tab "My Applications" and send email reminders to request for referee recommendations.
