SAHAPEDIA-UNESCO FELLOWSHIP

The Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship is a collaborative project to encourage fresh research on tangible and intangible heritage across India and South Asia. The Fellowship is a way to both support research on the arts and cultural diversity of India, and to encourage field practitioners and young scholars to identify from their perspectives what needs to be documented. Offered annually, the Fellowship supports people in their work with communities and practices that often do not get the attention they deserve. Eligibility

  1. The fellowship is open to post-graduates and above qualified in the regulations of the Humanities and Social Sciences in the most comprehensive sense, or those with equivalent experience.
  2. Applicants with previous professional or academic familiarity with the topic under application may be given preference.
  3. The Fellowship is available to only those applicants holding an Indian bank account.
  4. Applicants who were granted the Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship earlier are not eligible to apply.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 44,445

  1. Selected candidates will be granted an award of Rs. 44,
  2. Applicable Income Tax will be deducted at source as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
  3. Thus, the award will amount to Rs. 40, 000, which will be released in three installments, based on the completion of specific deliverables. The procedure for disbursements will be shared upon signing the agreement.
  4. Fellows working in regional languages will receive an additional payment of up to Rs. 10, 000 for translation (upon approval of a sample by the Sahapedia team, and the provision of an invoice). No. of scholarships is subject to availability, please visit official website.

Selection process

Selection Criteria for Sahapedia-UNESCO Fellowship is based on: ​​​​​​​

  1. The language of the proposal and writing sample submitted by the candidate.
  2. Assessment of sample videos based on-camera work, visuals and narrative skills.
  3. The understanding of sources, completeness, and range of references submitted.
  4. Clarity with regards to the purpose of the project.
  5. Clarity with regards to the deliverables chosen for the project.
  6. The coherence of the entire proposal and area of study.
  7. The subject of the research and its relevance. Other Info Terms and Conditions
  8. Selected candidates are required to complete the Fellowship Project within 28 weeks.
  9. The fellowship is classified namely, research, documentation or combination of both.
  10. Depending on the classification chosen by the fellows, they have to choose their deliverables as specified.
  11. Every deliverable must be supported with a list of resources.
  12. The key deliverables for the research category include –
  13. Introductory article/illustrated overview in about 3,000 words with 5 to 10 images, OR
  14. A short documentary film of 15 to 20 minutes with English subtitles and synopsis of approximately 500 words
  15. The key deliverables for the documentation category and the combination of both categories include –
  16. Allied article in about 1500 words with 3 to 5 images, OR
  17. Image Gallery of 30 to 50 images with captions, OR
  18. Photo essay comprising a short essay of about 500 to 800 words and 20 images with captions to complement the visual narrative 12 . Text interview with a scholar/practitioner/expert in about 1500 words with a minimum of 10 questions and answers
  19. The candidates working in regional languages are required to provide content translated into English.
