The "Pre-Matric Scholarships to the Children of Those Engaged in Occupations Involving Cleaning and Prone to Health Hazards" is a scheme launched in 1977-78 by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The scheme aims to provide financial support to children whose parents or guardians are involved in occupations that are hazardous to health, such as manual scavenging and waste picking. Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria: a. Applicants must be a domicile of Punjab. b. Classes 1st or any subsequent class at the pre-matric stage (Day schooler) c. Classes 3rd or any subsequent class at the pre-matric stage (Hosteller) d. The scholarship will be provided for ten months in an academic year and will terminate at the end of class 10th.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 1,000 Day Scholars: a. Classes 1st to 10th: ₹110 per month for ten months. b. Ad-Hoc Grant: ₹750 per student per annum. Hostellers: a. Classes 3rd to 10th: ₹700 per month for ten months. b. Ad-Hoc Grant: ₹1000 per student per annum. Additional Provisions for Students with Disabilities: c. Reader Allowance: ₹100 per month for blind students in classes III and X. d. Transport Allowance: ₹50 per month for disabled students not residing in the hostel. e. Special Pay: ₹100 per month for a helper assisting severely orthopedically handicapped students. f. Escort Allowance: ₹50 per month for severely handicapped day scholar students with lower extremity disability. g.
