- Visit the Official Application Portal Go to the official NISER Bhubaneswar website (niser.ac.in). Look for the “NSIP Summer Internship” announcement / application notice.
- Contact a Faculty Supervisor (PI) Before filling the form, identify a Principal Investigator (PI / faculty) whose research matches your interests. Email the faculty directly to request their consent to supervise your internship. You may need a written/emailed faculty acceptance before submitting the application.
- Prepare
Selection process
- Application Submission Students submit their online application with all required documents (CV, marksheets, bonafide/NOC, photograph). Applications are considered only if all required documents are properly uploaded before the deadline.
- Faculty/PI Shortlisting Each application is forwarded to the faculty member (Principal Investigator, PI) whose project the student applied for. The PI evaluates candidates based on: Academic performance (marks/grades) Relevance of coursework to the research project Skills mentioned in the CV Motivation and statement of purpose (if provided)
- Recommendation Letters (Optional but Important) Some schools ask for recommendation letters from professors or mentors. Strong recommendations increase chances of selection, but absence does not automatically disqualify.
- Shortlisting Faculty sends the shortlisted candidates to the school’s internship coordinator. The coordinator prepares a final list of selected interns. Shortlisting is strictly based on merit and project fit, not first-come-first-served.
- Announcement of Results The selected candidates’ list is published on the NISER website and often communicated via email. Usually, only shortlisted candidates are contacted; others are not notified individually.
- Final Acceptance Selected students must confirm their acceptance and may have to provide additional documents for verification. They are then assigned to the respective project and supervisor.
- Internship Commencement Interns report to the campus on the start date (mid-May usually) and follow the program schedule. Other Info Research Areas & Projects Interns work on ongoing research projects with NISER faculty across various domains: Biological Sciences Chemical Sciences Computer Sciences Earth & Planetary Sciences Humanities & Social Sciences Mathematical Sciences Physical Sciences Centre for Medical & Radiation Physics This gives hands‑on research exposure and helps build a strong scientific profile.
