Eligibility

In order to become eligible, an applicant must: be interested in undertaking a life science-associated internship for a period of two or three months be a student enrolled in the 2nd year of a 3-year undergraduate program or in the 2nd/3rd year of a 4-year undergraduate program, or be a student enrolled in the 1st year of a 2-year Master's program or in the 2nd/3rd/4th year of a 5-year integrated program in an Indian institute be accepted to work in the lab of a Professor/Principal Investigator (PI) in any Indian Institute outside their institution of study Prospective PI mentor must have at least three years of experience as faculty and at least three publications in peer-reviewed journals as a corresponding author

Award & availability

Stated amount: 6,000 Selected interns will receive a stipend of up to ₹6,000 per month including other benefits. The Next Gen Scientists Foundation (NGSF) does not specify a fixed number of interns selected annually. The final cohort size depends on the number of eligible applicants and available funding, although the program mentions that remote interns can make up to 20 percent of the selected cohort.

Selection process

Application Screening All submitted applications are reviewed to check eligibility, academic background, and completeness of documents. Shortlisting of Candidates Candidates are shortlisted based on academic merit, research interest, and statement of purpose. Interview Round Shortlisted applicants are invited for an online interview with the NGSF selection panel. Final Selection Final interns are selected based on overall performance in the application and interview. Other Info Internship Duration The internship usually lasts 2 to 3 months, typically from May to July. Mode of Internship The program offers both on-site and remote internship opportunities, depending on the project and availability. Research Focus Interns work on scientific research projects in areas such as science, technology, and related interdisciplinary fields. Mentorship Selected interns receive guidance and mentorship from researchers and scientists associated with the Next Gen Scientists Foundation. Certificate Interns who successfully complete the program receive a certificate of completion from the foundation.
