The Australian National University (ANU) in association with PRS Legislative Research, New Delhi, is offering an exciting opportunity for postgraduate students or recent postgraduates from premier Indian universities with a strong interest in Australia and Australia-India relations. The National Parliamentary Fellowships Program (NPFP) will select up to two fellows for a three months foreign policy-focused research stay in Canberra, Australia, to commence in February. The NPFP aims to identify and foster the development of a new generation of leaders, promoting investment in Australia-India relations through the networks which fellowship holders create. For a period of up to three months, from February to April, fellows will assist a member of Australia’s Parliament in developing policy advice and will have the opportunity to attend public policy hearings and briefings. Fellows will also be affiliated with a research mentor at the Australian National University pertinent to their primary policy research interest and will attend relevant events offered through ANU and other leading research institutes and think tanks in Canberra. Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the program, you must:
- Be an Australian citizen
- Be a graduate of, or enrolled in a postgraduate program at a Go8 university, and in excellent academic standing (A-levels, graduated with distinction) at the time of the fellowship
- Be under the age of 35 at the time of the fellowship
- Have a strong interest and demonstrated previous research or professional experience in international relations, particularly vis-à-vis India, or in India’s economic policy or security affairs
- Hold an Australian passport that has at least six months’ validity when the fellowship commences.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 67,082 The fellowship will cover the cost of an economy round trip airfare between India and Australia, a pre-arranged single room in a shared apartment for two fellows on the ANU campus, and a monthly scholarship of $800 (67,082.00 Rs). All other costs, such as visa fees and overseas travel health insurance will be covered by the fellow. Number of Fellowship is the subject to availability, for more please visit official website.
Application
No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the scholarship, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. To apply for the India fellowship, candidates are required to submit:
- An application form along with their resume
- A statement of purpose including the proposed research topic
- Most current academic transcript.
- Contact details for two references, with at least one of them being an academic reference. All applications are to be submitted electronically as a single Adobe Acrobat PDF file (including application form and attachments), an e-mail addressed to: will.zou@anu.edu.au. Applications must be received by 5pm AEST on July. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview, and successful candidates will be notified in August .
Selection process
Selection for NPFP is highly competitive. Selection will be based upon the following criteria:
- Academic history and performance
- Relevance and importance of proposed research topic
- Previous academic or professional experience in India
- Background in international relations or policy study

- The National Parliamentary Fellowship Program (NPFP) will select up to two fellows for a three-month foreign policy-focused research stay in New Delhi, India, to commence in September.

For a period of up to three months, from September - November, fellows will assist a member of India’s Parliament in developing policy advice, and will have the opportunity to attend public policy hearings and briefings.
- Fellows will also be affiliated with a research mentor at the NPFP partner in New Delhi, PRS Legislative Research, pertinent to their primary policy research interest, and will attend relevant events offered through PRS and other leading Indian research institutes and think tanks in New Delhi.
