MAMTA RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS ON PUBLIC HEALTH AND ADOLESCENCE
MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child is a not-for-profit organisation working on the issues of RMNCH+A, TB, HIV, and SRH and now on Non-communicable diseases for more than two decades. MAMTA has been conducting a Research Fellowship Scheme/Programme for the past 2 years to promote health, socio-behavioural and policy research in priority areas that impact adolescents and is meant to develop evidence to guide policy. This fellowship in India is an opportunity for post-graduates and PhD students to contribute to public health research on key issues affecting adolescents’ health to advance adolescents’ development and well-being. The key objectives of the scheme are to: 1. Strengthen and develop research in adolescent health and development. 2. Building the research capacity of students and researchers working in the area of public health. 3. Increase collaboration with National and International research partners. 4. Produce high-quality outputs that deliver impact to the community. As part of its research fellowship programme, MAMTA will also offer mentoring support to those research fellows who would be interested in seeking guidance and technical inputs from experts during all the stages of the research process including design, data analysis, quality assurance, interpretation of results and scientific writing. Research areas - The centres promote cross-disciplinary research affecting adolescent health, development and well-being. Some of the suggested areas of research include sexual and reproductive health, mental health, substance abuse, non-communicable disease, nutrition, injury, accidents, trauma, and social determinants/drivers of heath (child marriage, violence against adolescents, child abuse). This list is only indicative of the thematic areas in public health; it will not have any effect on the selection. Fellowship duration - Maximum tenure of the fellowship will be ONE year for the proposed research topic. Eligibility
Academic Qualifications: The applicant must be enrolled for a full-time study in an MD/MS/PhD degree program in a relevant discipline of medical science (Pediatrics, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, or Community Medicine), social science, public health & allied areas, from a recognized University/Institution in India. Age Limit: Age Limit Less than 40 years.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 100,000 Grant Sizes:
- Up to 10 research fellowships will be awarded annually. This includes five awards for MD and five for PhD students.
- The centre will provide fellowship amounts up to INR 1 lakh for all research activities, and up to INR 50,000 to be granted for publication support in peer-reviewed national/international journals. Financial support under the fellowship will include the following:
- Primary data collection.
- Documentation (e.g. report writing).
- Contingencies (stationary/photocopies/ printouts/courier and subscription charges).
- Travel and cost related to short-term courses related to research (data analysis, study design, how to write scientific articles etc). Financial support will NOT cover:
- Articles such as equipment, vehicle, and furniture.
- Any foreign travel, any personal travels. Up-to 10 research fellowships will be awarded annually. This includes five awards for MD and five for PhD students.
Application
Information is not Available. Interested applicants shall need to submit the following documents for applying for this research fellowship: 1. Certificate of Institutional Ethical Clearance. 2. Proof of enrolment in MD/PhD degree. 3. Age-proof. 4. Support letter from the Head of the Institution/Department for efficient use of fellowship. 5. CV of the applicant and his/her guide/ co-guide along with publications in the relevant area of research must be enclosed. 6. A short note (maximum 500 words) on the relevance of this fellowship for your career advancement in adolescent health and development. Please note that an applicant can submit only one application/proposal in the prescribed format. Duplicate applications/proposals will be summarily rejected. 7. Application with all the documents must be submitted in two hard and one soft copy should reach on or before September 30. 8. The envelope must mention “Application/Proposal for Fellowship” on top.
Selection process
Selection will be made on the basis of the academic record of the candidate and the quality of the proposal submitted. The applications will be screened by a screening committee based on the eligibility criteria. Applications found to meet the eligibility requirements will then be sent to a panel of experts in the area of research. The evaluation and selection for award of Fellowship will be guided by the following parameters:
- Relevance of the topic.
- Clarity of the research question and scope.
- Study design/Methodology for data collection.
- Background of the Candidate and Guide/Principal investigator (PI).
- Institutional Ethical Clearance. Other Info Proposal will be selected on the basis of merit for further discussion.
- Intimation to candidate and institution to which he/she is attached Once the proposal is selected the concerned applicant/candidate, principal investigator and institution/university shall be intimated via email/registered mail. The names of the awardees will also be posted on MAMTA’s website.
- Quarterly Monitoring progress The Scholarship holders are required to submit a progress report quarterly. Strict adherence on this is highly recommended for the next releases.
- Publication Scholarship holder is strongly encouraged to publish research papers based on the dissertation with joint authorship or due acknowledgement to AHA IAP-MAMTA. AHA IAP- MAMTA will have the right to access data and also publish reports/papers or make presentations with the Scholarship holder and the Principal investigator as co-authors.
