Malayalee Engineers’ Association (MEA) of Houston, Texas, USA is inviting applications for scholarships from first year students of Kerala origin, enrolled for at least a 4-year degree course in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Architecture or Naval Architecture, in a nationally accredited engineering college or university in India. Eligibility
- Annual family income of less than Rs.1,50,000 per year.
- Ranked higher than 5000 (1 to 5000) in the Govt. of Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination (KEAM Rank). OR National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) score greater than 110 (For B. Arch students).
- Scored above 85% marks in Class X and XII examinations.

Stated amount: 41,900 In the last 14 years, MEA has supported 113 students with scholarships, and disbursed a total of $200,000 . Currently the scholarship is $500 per year or 41,977.44 Indian Rupee for a student enrolled in 4-year course in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Architecture and Naval Architecture in a recognized University in India. Unlike many other scholarship programs, it covers a substantial portion of the total educational expenses of the student. In the last 14 years, MEA has supported 113 students with scholarships, and disbursed a total of $200,000 .

- Marks-lists of Class X and Class XII Examinations (Self Attested).
- Marks-list and Rank Certificate of the Govt. of Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination OR NATA Score card (Self Attested).
- Income Certificate including all sources, issued by Tahsildar / Village Officer.
- If parents or guardians are daily wage workers or labourers or engaged in agriculture, trade or business, a statement explaining the type of work, labour, agriculture, or business shall be submitted. This requirement is mandatory.
- Details of awards and honours received in extracurricular activities.
- Copy of the Ration card if you belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
- An essay by the applicant describing any financial difficulty or special circumstances that merit special consideration during the evaluation of the application.
- A statement providing details of scholarships, grants and non-repayable financial awards the student may be receiving from sources other than MEA Houston. Include amounts, duration of payment, source’s name and basis of award in your statement. Note: Once shortlisted, the applicant should submit a recommendation letter from the Principal, Headmaster or teacher of the school where the student studied for class X or XII. Applicants will be contacted for the same.
Selection process
The Students’ performance record in 10th and 12th-grade examinations and their rank in the Engineering Entrance Examination is considered along with the financial burden of the family. MEA’s Scholarship Evaluation Committee then generates a ranking for each applicant. The Committee discusses the results of the application evaluations and creates a short list of candidates. The financial background of the short-listed students is verified by volunteer MEA contacts in Kerala who actually visit the candidates’ homes and interview the parents and collect information through people who know the student and family. Based on the feedback from field volunteers the rankings are adjusted as necessary and a final list of selected students is prepared.
