INLAKS RESEARCH TRAVEL GRANTS
The Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation has been supporting innovative work in research and scholarship for more than four decades. The Inlaks Research Travel Grant assists registered PhD. Students of Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian universities to undertake short-term visits to institutions abroad to collect material, use facilities and consult experts. Eligibility
The applicant must:
- Be a registered PhD candidate at an Indian university for at least two years but not more than four years at the time of the application.
- Have a first-class degree at the Bachelor’s (Honours) and Master’s level.
- Must be under 35 years of age as on 31 December in the year of application.
- Be an Indian citizen, currently resident in India.
- The award is given only in Humanities and Social Sciences related subjects
Award & availability
Stated amount: 167,155 The award provides financial support for up to 3 months to cover research activities, including:- Travel allowance: Reimbursable for reasonable expenses, up to USD 1,000 (approx. ₹83,557.20) Maintenance expenses: Up to USD 2,000 (approx. ₹1,67,155) per month Research materials: Reimbursable for actual costs of purchasing materials and copying relevant literature, up to USD 500 (approx. ₹41,788.75) Health allowance: Reimbursable for actual health expenses, up to USD 500 (approx. ₹41,788.75) Information is not Available.
Application
There is no Separate application fee for the scholarship.
- The application form is accessible and downloadable.
- A sample of written work (3000-5000 words) on the topic of research should accompany the application. This should preferably be a draft chapter (with full annotation and documentation) as part of the PhD thesis along with details regarding the reading list, surveys or any other work done towards the thesis.
- Evidence of positive communication with the resource person or institution abroad and an agreement of the arrangements made.
- Written evidence from the applicant’s PhD supervisor stating: a. The candidate’s ability, focus and progress in the work done under their supervision. b. The candidate’s need to go abroad. c. That the funds for the visit abroad cannot be obtained from any other source.
- Two reference letters (This is separate from PhD Supervisor’s recommendation letter).

Selection process
- Candidates will be shortlisted based on the submitted application materials.
- Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed in person or via Zoom by a panel of experts in early September. Other Info Inlaks Research and Travel Grant is an opportunity provided by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation for Ph.D. students in Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian universities. It funds short-term visits abroad for research purposes, including collecting materials, utilising facilities, and consulting with experts. Selected candidates will receive a travel grant of USD 1,000 with additional benefits to help them cover their research work.
