IIASA FUNDED POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
Postdoctoral Fellowships are available at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) for researchers in: 1. Natural and Social Sciences 2. Mathematical Sciences and Modeling 3. Interdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences 4. Integrated Assessment 5. Management and Policy IIASA, located in Schloss Laxenburg near Vienna, Austria, provides full funding for a number of postdoctoral researchers each year. Scholars conduct their own research on topics closely related to IIASA’s research agenda. Applications are accepted continually. Review and selection of scholars occur twice yearly, in May and December. Postdoctoral positions are of up to 2 years duration and can begin up to 6 months after selection. Eligibility
- Candidates should have their PhD at the time of taking up the appointment and are expected to have a proven record of research accomplishments and a solid working knowledge of English.
- Candidates should have held their PhD for less than five years at the application deadline.
- The fellowship requires you to be present at IIASA (the typical period for IIASA-funded postdoctoral support is 12-24 months). Please do not apply if you need to be away from the institute to do your research or expect IIASA to fund field research overseas.
- Preference will be given to applicants who are nationals of countries where IIASA has a National Member Organization
- IIASA does not do lab-type research and therefore has no labs.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 3,640,275 Accepted candidates are offered:
- An allowance for relocation expenses to and from Laxenburg;
- Limited support for monthly business travel;
- An internationally competitive scholarship (39,000 EUR p.a.). It is exempt from taxation in Austria but subject to the principle of income aggregation; All appointees are eligible for either state or private health insurance. Information is not Available.
Application
No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the scholarship, it will be automatically considered, once you enrol for the program. Candidates are required to submit a research proposal, which will form the basis for a co-designed research agenda that couples their own interests with the IIASA research agenda. The fellowships, which are up to two years in duration, are the result of a competitive process and carry special recognition both within and outside the institute. The following criteria are taken into account:

- Cross-cutting potential Other Info To give postdoctoral fellows access to a broad and interdisciplinary range of scientific expertise, models and methods, networking opportunities, and research perspectives, more than one of IIASA’s research programs may be designated as their hosts; the involved programs will agree on how to share the resultant mentorship responsibilities.
