IIAS/CEM FMSH FELLOWSHIP
The International Institute of Asian Studies invites applications from outstanding Indian scholars for a 10-month fellowship at the research institute based in Leiden University, Netherlands. Selected fellows can further extend their research fellowship by taking up an optional 2-month fellowship at the Collège d’études mondiales of the Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme (CEM-FMSH) in Paris. The fellowship is open to PhD holders in social sciences and humanities, with focus on Asian studies research. Applicants need to propose a research topic that falls under the given IIAS clusters 'Asian Cities', 'Asian Heritage', or 'Global Asia', or an outstanding project in an area outside the above. Eligibility
IIAS Fellowship and IIAS+FMSH Fellowship are intended for outstanding researchers from around the world, to work on important aspects of Asian studies in the Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts. Interdisciplinary interests are encouraged.
- Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements of the PhD. A letter from your university will be required to confirm your graduation before February.
- The IIAS Fellowship will be for a duration of 12 months, from the first week of September to the last week of August.
- The IIAS Fellowship Programme is residential. The fellowship includes a flat in Leiden in which selected fellows are required to reside.
- Fellows are expected to participate in IIAS activities, including lectures, seminars, and social events.
- Fellows will be provided with shared workstations, use of a conference and screening room and access to libraries. The researchers will also benefit from IIAS' vast network of collaborators and partner institutions.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 116,683 If IIAS decides to sponsor your research by awarding a fellowship, you will receive:
- A monthly stipend of €1250 for 12 months.
- Housing (a flat in Leiden about 20 minutes walking distance from IIAS headquarters).
- A one-time grant of €1,000 towards the cost of a roundtrip from country of residence to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.
- An amount to cover the cost of the monthly health insurance plan. It is mandatory for all fellows to have a health insurance plan in the Netherlands. The fellowship also includes a variety of outings, activities, and workshops that are specifically designed to enhance the professional development of fellows. These opportunities are intended to improve skills and facilitate networking within the field, and are sponsored by IIAS. Information is not Available.

Selection process
The selection process will consist of two separate stages. In the first stage, candidates submit the completed form with all the attached documents through the IIAS Fellowship Application Form. In the second stage shortlisted candidates will be asked to send Reference Letters and a short video. Instructions for preparing the video will be provided via email. Candidates wishing to apply as a duo for the Fellowship should each fill out a separate application form with the same project title and project description. Applicants should describe their individual contributions to the project as well as their plan for collaboration.
