The Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and managed by the Irish Research Council.This programme aims to support suitably qualified applicants to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at an eligible higher education institution in Ireland for either one or two years. Eligibility

  1. An applicant must have either graduated or have been certified as having fulfilled all the requirements for the award of a doctoral degree, including the submission of the hardbound corrected thesis, within the five-year period.
  2. You must posses a doctoral degree awarded within the 5-year period. For the purposes of this condition, the date of graduation will be taken into account.
  3. Applicants who have submitted applications before must not have had two previous unsuccessful applications to the programme.
  4. You must not hold or have held an Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship or Enterprise Partnership Scheme Postdoctoral Fellowship.
  5. Applicants must not have been employed as a postdoctoral researcher for more than 5 years.
  6. You must have authored or co-authored at least one published peer reviewed research publication or have demonstrable equivalent intellectual property output or have provided samples of their written research work.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 3,923,160 Selected Researchers will be eligible for the following benefits-

  1. A salary of €46, 305 ( INR 42, 47, 516) in the first year of the award and €47, 879 ( INR 43, 91, 898) in the second year of the award.
  2. Employer’s PRSI contribution; and
  3. Eligible direct research expenses of €5, 000(INR 4, 58, 645) per annum. No. of fellowships is subject to availability, please visit official website.

  2. You are advised to contact the Research Office in your proposed Higher Q Education Institution or Research Performing Organization for information and clarification on the call and get further information on your program.
  3. As an applicant, you will require a nominated Mentor in Ireland who is willing to mentor you for the proposed research project, and two nominated Referees who know you sufficiently well to provide you with a character reference.

  1. First All the application form will be evaluated.
  2. After evaluation, eligible candidates will be shortlisted for the scholarship.
