The Engineering Students Society Memorial Award is a financial aid provided by the University of Calgary to its current undergraduate students enrolled in the Schulich School of Engineering. The award is only available to the students of the Calgary Engineering field/subject. Applicants must be entering the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of their program. Eligibility

  1. Pursuing any engineering program at the undergraduate level at the University of Calgary.
  2. Currently enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study.
  3. The Engineering Students Society Memorial Award does not have any restrictions on the applicant’s nationality or academic background.
  4. For the majority of awards, you must have completed a minimum of academic 24.00 units over the previous fall and winter terms and also be continuing in your program by registering in full-time enrolment status in the upcoming academic year. Some awards allow for minimum completion of 18.00 units. Students who are registered with Student Accessibility Services to receive accommodations in their program qualify for awards after completing at least 18 units in the most recent fall and winter terms.
  5. The cumulative grade point average (GPA) used for awards purposes is based on all courses you most recently completed in the fall and winter terms as a full-time student. Scholarships require a minimum GPA of 3.20. For bursaries, the minimum GPA required is 2.00.
  6. Competitive awards require you to complete the online awards application; selection is based on academic merit however other criteria such as financial need (for bursaries), and/or extracurricular activities, leadership, volunteerism, etc. may be required depending on the award terms of reference.
  7. Nominated awards are based primarily on academic merit and most often are designated to a specific faculty or program. An awards application is not required and candidates are recommended by the faculty or department.
  8. Students entering an after-degree program in the fall term are not eligible for awards for Continuing Students however after completing the first year of your after-degree program, you qualify for these awards.
  9. Supplemental exams, deferred exams, special deferred exams or term work and CS grades may affect your eligibility for awards.

  3. Completion of the University of Calgary Award application is mandatory to be considered.
  4. The award aims to provide financial help to academically meritorious students who showcase a varied range of skill sets and possess leadership qualities, striving to become well-rounded engineers.

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enroll in the program. UG engineering students who fulfill the Engineering Students Society Memorial Award eligibility, can move ahead and complete an online application to apply for the award. Before applying, it is significant for the students to ensure that they maintain a full-time student status as stated at the time of admission at the University of Calgary. Step 1: Access the Student Centre in the myUofC portal available at the University of Calgary Official website. Step 2: In the Student Centre section, click on the "My Financials" page. Step 3: Click on the Awards & Scholarships section, and click on "Apply for Undergraduate Awards”. Step 4: A pop-up window will open on the screen with a number of applications for the different scholarships. Choose the Engineering Students Society Memorial Award application. Selection process

Recipient selection for the award will be based on the following factors:

  1. Academic merit, portrayed in previous years of study.
  2. Achievements in extracurricular activities, related to engineering.
  3. Leadership qualities and career goals. Once the selection committee has made a decision, the name of the recipient is announced at the time of the commencement of the new academic year, and the recipient is awarded $1, 800 (INR 1, 10, 910). Other Info Receiving award payment
  4. To receive award payment you must continue to meet the terms of reference for your award and maintain full-time registration during the upcoming fall and winter terms.
  5. Please review your award notification for information on how the payment will be disbursed. In most cases, the value of your award is applied directly to your tuition and fees, and award payments are split equally between the fall and the winter terms. Any remaining award funds are paid to you by direct deposit on October 25 for the fall term and on February 25 for the winter term. These excess award funds are referred to as "Payout of Scholarship Refunds."
  6. You can view your account summary and award payment in My UCalgary. Click on "My Financials" to view your account summary.
  7. Students must provide the university with banking information to receive a "Payout of Scholarship Refund." Enter your banking information through My UCalgary. Under the "My Financials" section and click on "Submit Direct Deposit Info."
  8. Payment of your excess award funds may be delayed if your banking information is not accurate or kept up to date.
