DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS (KERALA) - DIAMOND JUBILEE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Diamond Jubilee Fellowship for young artists is an innovative scheme conceived by the Culture Department with an objective to cultivate flair for art and culture in the minds of the younger generation. It also seeks to nurture the higher values of equality, secularism, brother hood, justice and democracy among the youth. Young and qualified artists in classical art forms, fine arts, theatre and folklore were selected through a process of interview and performance tests by renowned artists in the respective fields. The services of Kerala Kalamadalam Deemed to be University, the Sangeetha Nataka Akademy, Fine arts and Folklore Akademies were also utilized for the selection of the artistes. The selected artists are deployed in various Block panchayaths, Municipalities, Municipal Corporations across the state to bring both younger and older people close to the art. The artists impart training in more than 45 art forms. More than one lakh people received art training free of cost under this scheme. Those interested in various art. The artists are selected for a period of two years. Department of Culture will give Rs. 10,000/- per month as fellowship and the hosting Local Self Government Institutions will give an additional amount of Rs. 5,000/- per month to the fellowship artists. The Fellowship artists also give demonstration lectures in schools and colleges. Eligibility

Those who have passed Certificate / Diploma / Degree courses in recognized institutions shall be eligible for selection as Artists in classical, theatre and fine arts categories. The candidate except of folklore category should be below the age of 35 years.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 10,000 Department of Culture will give Rs. 10,000/- per month as fellowship and the hosting Local Self Government Institutions will give an additional amount of Rs. 5,000/- per month to the fellowship artists. Application

No Application Fees. Those interested are required to submit their applications online on http://www.keralaculture.org/fellowship_registration together with copies of all relevant documents.

Selection process

  1. First All the application form will be evaluated.
  2. After evaluation, eligible candidates will be shortlisted for the scholarship.
  3. Shortlisting of candidates will be done by authorities. Other Info Kerala, since time immemorial has been renowned for the richness and variety of its art and culture. Nowhere in the world can one find such spectacular and diverse art forms be it classical, contemporary or folk. It is thus no wonder that the UNESCO has declared Kutiyattam, the 2000-year old Sanskrit theatre and 'Mudiyettu', the folk ritual artform as the oldest living intangible art traditions in the world.
