COMMONWEALTH SHARED SCHOLARSHIPS

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are financial aid options for candidates hailing from least-developed or lower-middle-income commonwealth countries. The scholarship is awarded for studies in the UK in a full-time Master’s study on selected courses. The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship programme is one of three Master’s programmes offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Commonwealth shared scholarship is offered under 6 prominent themes: 1. Science and technology for development. 2. Strengthening health systems and capacity. 3. Promoting global prosperity. 4. Strengthening global peace, security, and governance. 5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises. 6. Access, inclusion, and opportunity. 7. Commonwealth-shared scholarships cover fees, fares, and personal maintenance. 8. Each Commonwealth scholarship is funded by CSC and various universities in the UK. 9. The application deadline scholarship session was October 18. Around 23 Commonwealth countries (including India) are eligible for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship. Eligibility

To be considered eligible to apply for the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, the applicant must:

  1. Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country.
  2. Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  3. Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September.
  4. By September, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
  5. Not have studied or worked for more than one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
  6. Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
  7. Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format. Note: The CSC will not fund a second master’s degree, if the applicant still applies, they will have to justify the reasoning behind undertaking the study. Award & availability

Stated amount: 182,728 Funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are available for students who want to study taught Master's program at a UK university. The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship will cover the following expenses of the student: Approved airfare to and from the student’s home country to home country only at the end of the award funded by CSC Approved tuition fees Entirely. funded by CSC Stipend, i.e., living allowance at £1, 347 (INR 1, 48, 992) per month, or £1, 652 (INR 1, 82, 728) per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area. funded by university Warm Clothing Allowance If applicable funded by university Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a thesis or dissertation funded by university Study travel grant study-related travel within the UK or overseas funded by CSC Excess baggage allowance up to an annual approved limit, when returning home. funded by CSC Reimbursement of the cost of a mandatory tuberculosis test required for a student visa application to the UK (receipts must be supplied). funded by CSC Recipients of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship are required to adhere to the standards to conduct the scholarship. Selection process

Each participating UK university will conduct its own recruitment process to select a specified number of candidates to be awarded Commonwealth Shared Scholarships and put these forward to the CSC. The CSC will then confirm that these candidates meet the eligibility criteria for the programme. Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  1. Academic merit.
  2. Quality of research proposal.

  5. Scholarships are to obtain one degree; funding will not be extended to enable candidates to complete a qualification in addition to or higher than that for which the selection was made.
  6. Scholarships are made in respect of full-time study only and no other course of study may be undertaken at the same time.
  7. Candidates must take the necessary steps to apply for admission to the preferred university. Many courses have strict admission deadlines and candidates should check admission requirements carefully when applying.​​​​​​​
