COMMONWEALTH PROFESSIONAL FELLOWSHIP

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are provided to mid-career professionals from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries. The fellowship is granted to the applicants to spend 6 weeks to 3 months at a UK university or host organization working in their sector on a program of professional development. The fellowship is offered to the applicants under the following six development themes: 1. Science and Technology for Development 2. Strengthening Health Systems and Capacity 3. Promoting Global Prosperity 4. Strengthening Global Peace, Security and Governance 5. Strengthening resilience and response to CrisiS 6. Access, Inclusion, and Opportunity Commonwealth Professional Fellowship aims to provide talented and motivated professionals with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in their fields of specialization. 1. The scholarship is funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the UK. 2. An applicant is expected to have at least 5 years of full-time or equivalent part-time relevant work experience. 3. Eligibility

To be eligible for these Fellowships, prospective Fellows must:

  1. Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
  2. Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
  3. Have at least five years’ full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant work experience, in a profession related to the subject of the fellowship programme, by the proposed start of the fellowship – voluntary work experience will not be counted towards this minimum.
  4. Be in employment at the time of application at an organisation that they will return to upon completion of the fellowship.
  5. Provide at least two references, one of which must be from their current employer. Any applications for which references are not received by the reference closing date will be considered ineligible.
  6. Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years (at the time of taking up the award).
  7. Not be seeking to undertake an academic programme of research or study. Academics are eligible to apply for the scheme, but only to undertake programmes of academic management, not research or courses relevant to their research subject.
  8. Be available to undertake their fellowship from the prescribed start date.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 281,500 Each Fellowship provides:

  1. Approved return airfare from the Fellow’s home country to the UK.
  2. Reimbursement of the standard visa application fee.
  3. Stipend (living allowance) payable monthly (or pro rata) for the duration of the award at the rate of £2, 057 (INR 2, 26, 809) per month, or £2, 553 (INR 2, 81, 500) per month for those at organisations in the London metropolitan area.
  4. If a Fellow declares a disability, a full assessment of needs and eligibility for additional financial support will be offered by the CSC.
  5. Arrival allowance of up to £1,156.60 (INR 1, 27, 463), including an element for warm clothing.
  6. A maximum of £3, 000 (INR 3, 30, 787) per Fellow can be agreed by host organisations for short courses/conferences as well as travel to visit other UK organisations where this forms an integral part of the programme. Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. Candidates who wish to secure Commonwealth Professional Fellowship must Apply Online and to the host organization in the UK. The application can only be done on the Host Programs which are available during that time, some of the Host Programs include:

  18. List all undergraduate and postgraduate university qualifications obtained (where applicable)
  19. List up to 10 publications and prizes (if applicable)
  20. Provide details of your employment history and explain how each job is relevant to the programme you wish to undertake in the UK (up to 100 words per employment)
  21. Provide a statement on the relevance of your previous work experience to the proposed fellowship (up to 300 words)
  22. List names and positions of up to three referees who are qualified to comment on both your capacity to benefit from your proposed fellowship in the UK and your ability to deliver development impact afterwards. One of your referees must be your current employer Provide a development impact statement in 4 parts. Part 1: (up to 200 words) Explain how participation on your selected fellowship relates to: a. one of the six CSC development themes b. development issues at the global, national and local level Part 2: (up to 100 words) Explain how you intend to apply your new skills once your Fellowship ends. Part 3: (up to 250 words) Outline what you expect will change in development terms following your fellowship including: a. the outcomes that you aim to achieve b. the timeframe for their implementation c. who the beneficiaries will be Part 4: (up to 100 words) Write about how the impact of your work could be best measured.
  23. Confirm what your award objectives are and how each of them will be met by the fellowship programme

  25. Provide a personal statement to summarise the ways in which your personal background has encouraged you to want to make an impact in your home country.   26. Summarise the ways in which you have engaged in voluntary activities and the opportunities you have had to demonstrate leadership (up to 500 words)

Selection process

The applications for Commonwealth Professional Fellowship are sent to the Host Organization to which the candidate has applied.

  1. The Host Organization sets up a Commission to select potential candidates for the Fellowship Grant.
  2. Selection is based on work employment, the program they have applied to, their contributions towards the field during employment, etc.
  3. The decision of the Host Organization is final and binding. After carefully assessing all candidates, the Commission reaches a decision on which applicants are to be considered for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship. Other Info Terms and Conditions ​​​​​​​1. Fellowships are provided for 1 to 3 months. If that exceeds, there must be a strong case for the additional time.
  4. No fellowship can be applied for less than one month.
  5. Attending short courses or conferences during the fellowship is also acceptable.
  6. The fellowship grant is only applicable for UK-based courses for their full duration.
  7. Up to 5 applicants can be nominated to the host by the organizations every year.
  8. Candidates who are pursuing a full-time course are not eligible for the fellowship.
  9. If a candidate has received benefits of any other grant or aid during the application, they are not eligible for the scholarship.
  10. Applicants who wish to undertake research or academic program will also not be considered for the fellowship.
  11. Applicants who previously have taken leave to work abroad in a developed country must make an additional case clearly stating their experience, what they gained from the previous term and why they should be considered again for this scholarship.
