COLOMBO PLAN SCHOLARSHIP IN ENGINEERING

The Colombo Plan Scholarship is offered by the University of Auckland to international students who wish to study undergraduate or postgraduate engineering programmes there. It can only be availed by students who are citizens of Colombo Plan member countries. 1. The recipient gets NZD 3,000 (INR 1, 54, 559) towards their tuition fees. 2. Only one person is awarded each year. 3. The candidate is chosen by members of the Faculty of Engineering. The scholarship was established and is funded by alumni of the Faculty who studied under the Colombo Plan, along with other donors. Eligibility

The scholarship is meant for students enrolled in the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Engineering.

  1. Applicant must have paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time study in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or any postgraduate program under the Faculty.
  2. The Scholarship will be awarded to an international student who is a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United States of America and Vietnam.
  3. Although Australia is a member of the Colombo Plan, Australian citizens do not have international status in New Zealand and hence cannot avail of the scholarship.
  4. If the recipient becomes a domestic student during the scholarship tenure, they will no longer be eligible.
  5. The money must go towards tuition fees.
  6. The scholarship may be held along with any other award, as long as it is approved by the Council. Meeting the eligibility criteria alone does not assure the award, and in the event that none of the applicants fulfils the expectations, the University of Auckland Council retains the right to abstain from granting the award for that particular year.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 154,559

  1. One Scholarship will be awarded annually, for a period of one year, and will be of the value of NZD 3, 000 (INR 1, 54, 559) towards tuition fees.
  2. The Scholarship will be awarded to a student who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or any postgraduate degree programme in the Faculty of Engineering. ​​​​​​​ No. Of Scholarship- 01

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the grants, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date. Selection process

  1. All the applications are assessed by a Selection Committee, which comprises the Dean, Deputy Dean, and an academic of the Faculty of Engineering. They finally make a recommendation to the University Council regarding the selection.
  2. Application is made to the Scholarships Office.
  3. A Selection Committee assesses the applications.
  4. The Scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committee. Students will be evaluated on the basis of:

  6. Financial need
  7. Community engagement
  8. Communication skills
  9. Leadership potential

  11. The Scholarship may be concurrently held with any other award or grant as long as a) the terms of that award or grant permit and b) the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves.
  12. The University of Auckland Council has the power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of a Scholar from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
  13. The University of Auckland Council has the power to amend or vary these Regulations provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.
  14. The Scholarship’s emolument will be paid in two instalments, one in the first and one in the second semester.
  15. The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if in any year there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
  16. The University of Auckland Council has the power to amend or vary these regulations, in consultation with the Donor, provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.

  18. Students who have been offered a scholarship must meet all requirements for admission to their programme of study.
  19. Compulsory fees are those only related to the relevant degree study.
  20. The student will be required to pay all other fees and costs inherent in pursuing study at the University of Auckland as an international student.
  21. If a recipient becomes a domestic student during the tenure of the Scholarship they will no longer be eligible to receive payment and their Scholarship will be terminated.
  22. Although Australia is a member country of the Colombo Plan, Australian citizens do not have international student status in New Zealand and so are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
