Barbara Hayes- Roth Award for Women in Math and Computer Science is a merit-based scholarship offered to female students demonstrating outstanding academic excellence at the University of Waterloo. The female students must be enrolled on a full-time master's or doctorate program in the faculty of mathematics or computer science. Eligibility

To be considered for Barbara Hayes- Roth Award for women in Math and Computer Science, applicants are required to meet the below mentioned entry requirements:

  1. Enrolled into a full-time masters or doctoral program in the Faculty of Mathematics or Computer Science.
  2. Computer Science students are preferred over Mathematics.
  3. Demonstrate outstanding academic record with 80% cumulative average in the current program Candidates pursuing the following programs will only be eligible for the Barbara Hayes- Roth Award for women in Math and Computer Science:
  4. Mathematics – applied mathematics,
  5. Combinatorics, optimisation,
  6. Computational mathematics,
  7. Computer science,
  8. Mathematics for teachers,
  9. Pure mathematics,
  10. Quantitative finance,
  11. Statistics and Actuarial Science.
  12. Only the female graduate students will be eligible for the scholarship Students are not required to submit any additional forms. Students will be assessed based on their application for admission at University of Waterloo.

Award & availability

Stated amount: 167,764 ​​​​​​Value description: The goal is to provide at least one award valued at a minimum of $1,200 CAD annually, however the value and/or number of awards may change from year to year. While the endowment is building, the donor will support the award with a $2,000 award. Number of Scholarship is the subject to availability, for more please visit official website.

Application

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the scholarship, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. The outstanding female graduate students are selected automatically by the faculty or the department, every year for Barbara Hayes- Roth Award for women in Math and Computer Science.

  1. The scholarship is only applicable for the fall term and shall cover only tuition fees of the program.
  2. The preference is given to female students pursuing a computer science degree program.
  3. The amount or the number of awards might vary every year. While the endowment is building, the donor will support the word with a 2000 CAD award. The most important goal of Barbara Hayes- Roth Award for women in Math and Computer Science is to award at least one award to a female graduate student. Funding of this scholarship was possible only because of the efforts of David Ash’ 87 who wanted to support the excellence of the future female generation in graduate studies and research.

Student selected automatically by Faculty/Department. For further details, please check: https://uwaterloo.ca/ Other Info Award description: A scholarship valued at a minimum of $1,200 will be provided annually to female graduate students registered full time in a Master’s or Doctoral program in the Faculty of Mathematics based on demonstrated academic excellence (normally 80% cumulative average in their current program). Preference will be given to students in Computer Science. This fund is made possible by David Ash, BMath ‘87 to support a future female generation of excellence in graduate studies and research.
