AICHI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Aichi Prefectural Government is currently taking applications for the Aichi Scholarship Program. Utilizing scholarship money provided by the prefectural government, students from outside of Japan will travel to Aichi and enroll in graduate school to study the specialized fields and related subjects that support Aichi’s industries. After completing their courses of study, these students will then be expected to seek employment within Aichi. Please note that this scholarship is to be offered on the premise that the budget is approved by the Aichi Prefectural Assembly of February 2024. Eligibility
- Citizenship: Applicants must hold citizenship of, and currently reside in outside of Japan: United Nations Member States except for Japan and North Korea, also Vatican City, Kosovo, Cook Islands and Niue.
- Age: Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of April 1, 2024, i.e. born on or after April 2, 1988.
- Academic Degree: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent thereof.
- Field of Study: Applicants must study a subject recognized as pertinent to the support of Aichi’s industries.
- Health: Applicants must be healthy enough to accomplish the program, both mentally and physically.
- Japanese Language Ability: Applicants must have a good command of Japanese language to study and seek employment in Aichi or have the prospect of obtaining sufficient language ability.
- Post-Scholarship Employment: Applicants must have the intention to seek employment at a company that has its headquarters, or a branch office located within Aichi (whether or not work placement should fall in Japan).
- Reporting: Reporting on Employment Status After Completion of Studies: Applicants are required to respond to inquiries regarding employment status sent via email from the Aichi Prefectural Government after completion of studies.
- Internships: During the first year of their master’s course study, applicants must participate in internship programs.
- Other Scholarships: a. Applicants must not be receiving scholarships or grants from any other organization, including the Japanese government and the government of their home country. b. Spouses of students currently receiving scholarship money from the Aichi Prefectural Government are not eligible to apply.
- Date of Arrival: Applicants must be able to come to Japan by October 2024 on a day to be designated by the Governor. When applicants’ arrival in Japan is delayed due to any reasons approved by the Governor, such as restrictions on entry to Japan, they must arrive in Japan by the end of March 2025 allowing them to take the entrance examination for the graduate school which starts in April 2025. Even if the applicants inevitably take the online entrance examination for the graduate school outside of Japan, they must arrive in Japan by the end of March 2025.
- Other Conditions: a. Applicants must be admitted as a research student at a university or a graduate school within Aichi from the period of October 2024 to March 2025. b. After arriving in Japan, applicants must enroll in the national health insurance system.
Award & availability
Stated amount: 85,823 The Aichi Scholarship Program provides the followings: Living Allowance: 150,000 yen per month. (Paid from the month of arrival in Japan.) This living allowance in principle will be reduced under the following circumstances: When applicant leaves Japan for more than 30 days When applicant takes a leave of absence from school The living allowance will be reduced to 100,000 yen per month from April 2026 if the applicant fails to pass the N4 or higher level of Japanese-Language Proficiency Test organized by The Japan Foundation and Japan Educational Exchanges and Services by the end of March 2
- The allowance will be increased to 150,000 yen per month from the month following the day you submit a passing certificate for the N4 or a higher level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. If the Japanese Language Proficiency Test cannot be taken due to exceptional circumstances, similar tests can be used for the assessment of your proficiency. Travel Expenses to Japan: a. Travel expenses to Japan Airfare to Japan approved by the Governor within the budget for economy class and other travel expenses from the nearest international airport to applicants’ residence to the Chubu Centrair International Airport. When those airports cannot be used for exceptional circumstances, the Governor may offer necessary expenses. b. Travel expenses from Japan As a general rule, airfare for return flight will not be provided. School Expenses: School expenses will be paid upon applicants’ arrival in Japan. School expenses include entrance examination fees, entrance fees, and tuition for both research and graduate study within certain limits as per the following list: Items Limit Entrance examination fee (research student) ¥9,800 Entrance fee (research student) ¥84,600 Tuition (six months; research student) ¥178,200 Entrance examination fee (master’s course student) ¥30,000 Entrance fee (master’s course student) ¥282,000 Tuition (annual; master’s course student) ¥535,800 PERIOD OF SCHOLARSHIP Two years and six months beginning October 2024 and ending March 2027. If a scholarship student is judged to have violated the pledge or unlikely to complete their studies, the scholarship will be terminated at that point. If the applicant cannot pass the master course’s entrance examination before March 2025, the scholarship will be terminated at the end of the following month of the announcement of the test result. If the announcement is made in March, the scholarship will be terminated at the end of March. If the applicant fails to earn notification of employment by the end of January 2027, the scholarship will be terminated at the end of February 2027. Number of Students - 5 scholarship

No Separate Application or Fee is Required to get the scholarship, it will be automatically considered, once you enrolled for the program. (1) Recommending Organizations: Applicants must apply through graduate schools located in Aichi. (2) Deadline: Application forms from a recommending organization must arrive in the Aichi Prefectural Government by Friday May 17, 2
- (3) Selection: The governor selects the scholarship recipients from among applicants recommended by the Aichi Scholarship Program Selection Committee. The selection results will be announced to the recommending universities by the end of July 2024. (4)

- Other Info CAUTION
- Before applying, please inquire into available courses, learning environments, the language of instruction, dormitories, and all related expenses, including school expenses. Please apply only when you are confident that you will be able to complete two and a half years of study in Japan and eager to find employment within Aichi.
- At dates determined by the Governor, scholarship students will be required to submit progress reports on their studies, research, job search, academic performance, and so on. They will also be required to support projects in which the Aichi Prefectural Government is involved.
- Other matters not specified in this outline will be under the Aichi Scholarship Students Program Outline, Aichi Scholarship Students Program Subsidy Provision Outline, and Aichi Prefectural Subsidy Statute (Aichi Prefectural Rule #8 in 1980).
- If any false information is found in the application forms, the provision of the scholarship may be denied.
