A C RAYNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - NEW ZEALAND

A scholarship is available to a student studying for a Master's degree in any area of economics including economic policy. Tony Rayner was Professor of Economics at Lincoln University from 1985 to 1990, after a distinguished career at the University of Canterbury between 1966 and 1984. Professor Rayner was an outstanding teacher of economics and a dedicated supervisor of post-graduate students. His research output included articles in the best journals of econometrics, before he devoted himself more to applying economic principles to important international and national policy issues. At the time of his untimely death, Professor Rayner was undertaking research projects for the World Bank on agriculture and world trade, and was convenor of the economic monitoring group of the New Zealand Planning Council. Professor Rayner presided over the internal reviews that resulted in the introduction of Lincoln University’s Bachelor of Commerce and Management degree in 1990. A full obituary and list of publications is recorded in New Zealand Economic Papers, 24 (1990), pp. 140-144.
